What is Challenger 300 / 350 ➡️ skill test?
Mitsubishi Bombardier CL30 skill test is the checkride with EASA TRE for the initial issue of CL30 typerating. That includes both Challenger 300 and Challenger 350. The Bombardier CL30 skill test is done upon the completion of CL30 type rating course. Flight training, so-called type rating training is provided by an EASA flight school with respective authorization for Challenger CL30 trainings.

The Bombardier CL30 skill test is required by FCL.725(c) and described in Appendix 9 to Part FCL. An applicant for initial issue of Mitsubishi Bombardier CL30 type rating shall pass a skill test and demonstrate the skill required for the safe operation of the applicable variant. The applicant shall pass the skill test within a period of 6 months after commencement of the type rating training course and within a period of 6 months preceding the application for the issue of the Bombardier CL30 type rating.
Skill test Challenger 300 ➡️ Content
Applicants for a Bombardier Challenger 300 and 350 skill test shall have received instruction in the same type of aircraft to be used in the skill test. The skill test for multi-pilot typerating shall be conducted in an FFS. Failure to achieve a pass in all sections of the test in two attempts will require further training. There is no limit to the number of skill tests that may be attempted.
Bombardier Challenger 300/350 skill test contains at least following items:
- maneuvers and procedures (normal operations)
- maneuvers and procedures (emergency and abnormal operations)
- rejected take-off at different airspeeds
- flight with one engine inoperative
- en-route IFR flight (1 enroute segment with duration of at least 15 minutes) (line-oriented flight training)
- usage of navigation aids (VOR, LOC, ILS, GNSS, PBN)
- precision and non-precision approaches including OEI, go-arounds and PBN elements
- UPRT
Applicants are required to fly the Bombardier Challenger 300 and Challenger 350 from a position where the PIC or co-pilot functions (as relevant) can be performed.
During preflight preparation for the skill test, applicant is required to determine power settings and speeds. Applicants shall indicate to the TRE Bombardier CL30 the checks and duties carried out, including the identification of radio facilities. Checks shall be completed in accordance with the checklist for the aircraft on which the test is being taken and the MCC concept. Performance data for take-off, approach and landing shall be calculated by applicants in compliance with the operations manual or flight manual for the aircraft used. Decision heights/altitudes, minimum descent heights/altitudes and missed approach point shall be agreed upon with the examiner.

Challenger 300 and Challenger 350 skill test takes approximately 6 hours. It includes the additional time required for briefing and de-briefing.

The ICAO English exam can be a part of your Challenger 300/350 skill test with TRE. The ICAO English exam is provided in cooperation with Aero Language. Type Rating Examiner is also the Language Proficiency Examiner for ICAO English Level 6.

Bombardier CL30 - Challenger 300/350 series typerating authorizes the holder to fly on all variants constituted into the common CL30 type by EASA Type Ratings and Licence endorsement list.

The privileges of common Bombardier CL30 series typerating authorizing you to fly on following variants:
- Bombardier CL30 - Challenger 300
- Bombardier CL30 - Challenger 350
EASA established differences training and familiarization training for different variants of Bombardier CL30. In accordance with GM1 FCL.710:
- Differences training requires the acquisition of additional knowledge and training on an appropriate training device (simulator) or the variant of Bombardier CL30 aircraft.
- Familiarisation training requires the acquisition of additional knowledge without necessity of the actual training.

The duration of differences training is specified in the EASA OSD for the Bombardier CL30. After the differences training course completion the partial proficiency check with TRE Bombardier CRJ is usually required.
Challenger 300 / 350 typerating validity
In accordance with FCL.740(a) the validity period of Bombardier 300/350 series is 12 months (1 year). Another requirement limiting the validity of your Bombardier CL30 series is FCL.710(d). It mandates additional differences training or familiarization training with possible proficiency check if you have not flown the particular variant of Bombardier CL30 series for more than 24 months (2 years).
